Chao
Phraya River, served as the main
avenue of the city of Bangkok in the past. Therefore, all significant
structures can be found on
both banks of the river, as places of warship under
constant repairs and well maintained, palaces and residences
of Royals and nobleman, and head offices of Western companies
that were front runners in trade. A cruise on the Chao Phraya
River thus gives one an insight into the past of bangkok, apart
from an enjoyable stroll on the river itself.

Wat
Arun ,
"Wat"it means"temple"
in English located on the west bank of the Chao
Phraya River, it is very old temple and it was built around
Ayutthaya period. But when
Thailand was sacked by Burmese in 1767 AD. King Taksin made
Thai independent
from Burmese and had to move the capital from Ayutthaya to Thonburi
by boats.
Evenually these boats came along Chao Phraya River and get to
Wat Arun in the
morning. So later King Taksin named the temple "Arun"
which it means "morning"
in Thai and the name of the temple in English called "The
Temple of Dawn" |

The
tower of Wat Arun,
We called in Thai "Phra Prang Wat Arun", 79 meter high pagoda
decorated with ceramic tiles and fragments of multicolored porcelain.
You can see this pagoda from the river, it is very beautiful and it
will be more beautiful if you can see it when the sun sets. A pair
of giants guarding the entrance to a temple building. These are similar
to the 12 giants in the Grand Palace. There are also a lot of
the decorative material for the temple came as ballast on boats from
China. These ranged from the broken porcelin plates used to decorate
the wall to the Chinese statues dotted around the temple |
